art and school

Since the autumn of 2003, the kestnergesellschaft has been offering a communication project to schools throughout the region and in the city of Hannover. The guided tours through the exhibitions in our house are specially conceived for pupils in the age group between 16 and 20. The goal is to convey to young people an appealing and enduring understanding of current art; especially contemporary art handles contents which often have a close connection to the actual experiences of young people.

Our curators focus their attention during the guided tours upon a dialogical concept which is less academically oriented and which conveys a fundamental and vital view of the respective works. The art teachers of the schools are emphatically involved in this process. Accordingly, before the beginning of each exhibition cycle there are introductory programs for teachers which are designed, among other things, to demonstrate concrete suggestions for the presentation of art in an instructional situation.
