Since the autumn of 2003, the kestnergesellschaft has been offering educational mediation projects to schools throughout the region and in the city of Hanover. Guided tours through the exhibitions are specifically tailored to pupils in the age group between 16 and 20. The goal is to convey to young people an appealing and enduring understanding of current art. It is our view that contemporary art often directly deals with the actual social and cultural experiences of young people, appealing to their creativity and curiosity.

During the guided tours, our curators focus their attention on interaction which is less academically oriented and conveys a fundamental and vital view of the artworks. Art teachers of area schools are involved in this process. Accordingly, before the beginning of each exhibition introductory programs are offered to teachers which are designed, among other things, to demonstrate concrete suggestions for the presentation of art in an instructional and educational situation.
